East Renfrewshire Council give away £60,000 to Close Cleaning

It has been reported to the people of East Renfrewshire by Hillside TRA and East Renfrewshire Tenants and Residents Federation that our Council are not charging Private home owners for Close Cleaning.

This give away cannot be tolerated in this time of hardship.

If a Council Tenant lives in a close along with private landlords and home owners the Council Tenants have to pick up the bill.

This has been run as a pilot scheme for a year but the council has extended this by three months.

Private landlords have had the cheek to complain about this service even although they don't pay a penny. But they have asked that it be continued. 

Council Tenants say that they have been surveyed and asked if they would be willing to pay £2.00 per week to continue this service. One Council Tenant has said that she is the only ERC Tenant out of 8 in her Close and thinks it isn't fair for her to pay £8.00 a month on top of her rent that was increased by almost 5% in April.

Hillside TRA along with other groups will take this matter to the HSLG in May. All private owners should pay for this service or clean the close themselves.

Every Council Tenant has to sign an agreement when they move into a Council house they too have an obligation to keep their Flates in a reasonable manner and that includes the Close. If They don't do it then the Council must do their job and remove them.
